Belize is a country nestled between Mexico and Antiqua Guatemala on the coast of the Caribbean Ocean. A vacation in this country will offer you everything you want in a holiday from rainforests to towering mountains, Mayan ruins and the second longest barrier reef in the Western World. Belize has plenty of caves and one of the most popular activities is cave tubing. In this activity, you float on tubed crafts through underground waterways with only your headlamp to guide you along with your tour guide. In the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave you can see the largest collection of preserved Mayan artifacts. A word of warning though - you need to be in good physical condition for this one!
There are nine districts in Belize, all of which have accommodation and attractions for tourists. In Northern Belize, you will see spectacular ancient ruins, jungles rainforests and coastal lagoons. In the Belize District, you can visit the Belize Zoo, several sanctuaries and historic buildings. The incredible Mayan site of Altun Ha is also in this area and is an impressive area to visit.
The beaches of Ambergris Caye are renowned and offer all sorts of water sports that you can imagine. Bird watchers will especially like to visit the bay side to see some of the bird life of Belize. Take a slower pace of life when you visit Caye Caulker, where you can really immerse yourself in Creole and Mestizo culture. The accommodation are also a little cheaper here than in other parts of the country.
Most of the Mayan sites are located in the Cayo District, where you will also find the Mayan Mountains. At Placencia, you can enjoy white sandy beaches and for the adventure minded, Southern Belize has what you are looking for in a vacation.
It would be impossible to experience all that Belize has to offer in just one visit. You will have to return many times to experience it all.
