Benin Tourist Guide From Discount Hotels
Benin may be a small West African country, but it packs a punch when it comes to choosing this country as a vacation destination. There is something here for everyone with small beaches, hidden lagoons and picturesque villages. Visit the northern region for a view of the Savannahs, hills and waterfalls. You will also encounter many different types of animals when you visit the many parks and reserves. Cotonou is the largest city in the country and is about the only place in the country that you are likely to encounter crowds of people. You can't leave the city without visiting the market where you can buy just about anything, whether it is voodoo amulets or fresh fruits and vegetables. The fish sold in the market comes from the fishing village of Ganvie and the villagers bring them to the market in their boats. Porto Novo is the capital city of Benin. It is a relatively small town located on a lagoon. Here you can really get a taste of the culture of Benin and get a look into the history of this country and the part it played in the slave trade. Many of their descendants returned to their native land. Ouidah is the main center on the "Slave Coast" and you can walk back in time at the museum that details the horrors of the slave trade. There is even a "slave route" along the beach where you can walk in the footsteps of these slaves until you reach the "point of no return". Have your picture taken with snakes around your neck at the snake temple or at one of the many other holy places and temples in the town. See where the Amazons once lived when you visit Abomey and tour the palaces belonging to the ancient kings. You will enjoy the climate and the scenery of Natitingou and the castle homes of Pays Somba. There is something new to see at every turn when you visit this beautiful country. There is no lack of accommodation as there are hotels in every one of the towns and many of them in Cotonou.
