Bhutan Tourist Guide From Discount Hotels

The Kingdom of Bhutan is a country in the Himalayas between India and Tibet. Only three parts of the country are open to tourists because of the many monasteries in this country. These regions are Eastern, Western and Central Bhutan. Bhutan, which means "Land of the Thundering Dragon" is a county of breathtaking beauty.

Thimphu is the capital of the country that looks more like a collection of villages than a large city. One of the main attractions in this city is the Tashichho Dzong - the main administrative and religious centre of the country. There are many dzongs (fortified monasteries) throughout the country. As you travel through the valleys and villages, you will have an opportunity to visit most of them. At Simtokha, only 8 miles from Thimphu, you will see that oldest dzong, the Karbandhi Monastery, in the country. The view of this monastery is very picturesque, as it sits on top of a forested hill overlooking the gateway to Bhutan.

There are many sacred temples in the Punakha Valley and the ancestral home of the royal family. No visit to Bhutan would be complete without viewing silk spinning in Tashigang or the slate carving and bamboo weaving in Wangdiphodrang. Watch one of the Buddhist festivals that take place or if you are there for the Timphu Festival you will witness the Dance of the Stag and the Hounds. On of the things you have to purchase in Bhutan is stamps, as this country is famous for them. There are cultural tours that will have you trekking through the countryside and for birdwatchers, Bhutan has more than 320 species of birds. History, culture, fun and enjoyment - Bhutan has it all.
