Kyrgyzstan Tourist Guide From Discount Hotels

Known as the Land of the Golden Teeth, Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country in Asia and was once part of the Soviet Union. Most of the country is 1500 m above sea level and unspoiled beauty in the highlands. Here you will find world-renowned mountain peaks, such as Peaks Pobeda at 7439 m. the tri-colored Khan-Tengry pyramid with its pink and white marble and granite stone rising to a height of 7000m and Lenin Peak at 7134 m. There are more than 2000 mountain lakes, one of which is the Issyk-Kul Lake or the "hot lake" according to the locals. This lake is the second largest lake in the world.

Karkol is the largest city and the capital of Kyrgyzstan that provides a postcard picture of the Slavic homes. This is the center of tourism for the area where you can enjoy mountaineering and trekking all year round. It is the perfect place for skiing and as it has not yet become widely known you will not have to contend with the crowds. The Karakol Ski Base is the highest in the world and is located about thirty minutes from the city.  There are spas located at the two hot springs locations within walking distance of the city.  There are sites to visit in the city as well, such as the Duncan Mosque and several museums. Even though the staff does not speak English, you will still be amazed by the exhibits that tell the story of this country and one of its famous explorers.

Bishkek is a relatively new city in Kyrgyzstan located in the Chui Valley of the Tien Shen Mountains. There is very little of a historical nature in this city but it has been gaining fame as the base from which you can begin your treks through the mountains. It is also a good place to learn to speak Russian where a private 30-minute lesson will only cost you about $5.

The country is just opening up to tourism so when you visit here you will see the unspoiled beauty and the people going about their normal daily activities.
