Macedonia Tourist Guide From Discount Hotels

Formerly known as the Republic of Yugolslavia, Macedonia is a mountainous country with spectacular lakes and valleys. Skopje is the capital of the country where you will be impressed by the modern features and buildings. The Old Town is where you will get a chance to see the older culture of the country in its small stores and winding streets. Whether or not you are a history buff, you have to visit the Church of the Holy Savior to see the intricately carved icon screen. There are buildings in the Old Town dating back to medieval times, such as the Mustafa Pasha Mosque and the Kale Fortress.

Bitola is the second largest city in the country and is only a short distance from the border with Greece. Here you can visit the ancient ruins of Hereclea and see some of the culture and architecture dating back to the time of the Ottoman Empire. Ohrid is a beautiful city where you can attend a concert within the walls of a ruined 10th century fortress. There are several ancient churches in this city and the university itself dates back to the 10th century.

The capital city of Skopje has many hotels, some of which are 5-star hotels. There are also many forms of accommodation in the tourist areas of Lake Ohrid and in the border areas. Macedonia is the place to visit if you really want to sample Balkan cuisine. Here you can taste the foods from Austria and Greece as well as the native dishes of the country.
