Short Stay Britannia Hotel

Our introduction to the hotel was a wedding party fighting in reception with police in attendance! Reception staff not particularly friendly and long queues to book in/out. The lobby itself was huge with a fantastic chandelier from the top storey down to recetpion, magnificent open luxurious stairways up thru centre of building. Our double room was very small, obviously reduced in size by the addition of the bathroom. Room was basic with dated furnishings and old pipework, but beds comfortable. In general the whole hotel needs updating - it had that old luxury but slightly "shabby" look in need of modernisation. Downstairs bar was equally spartan and dated and inadequately stocked. We did not use the dining room so I can't comment. There is no parking as with most hotels in central Manchester but a good discount is given for local car park literally around the corner. I would stay there again for a couple of days but would not choose this for a long stay hotel. A magnificent building that needs a large injection of money.
