Just across the road from Grand Central Station, the Roosevelt is a big grand building. Easy check in and out facilities and superb concierge desk with incredibly well informed staff who 'know all that one would need to know' to get the best out of a stay in NY. Any problems, ask them and they will happily help you out. Our room was adequate though on the small side but clean and comfortable. As we arrived late because of a flight delay, we made the mistake of ordering snack meals from the 24 hour room service. HUGELY expensive and we had to wait almost an hour before it was delivered so don't follow in our footsteps. This is a busy hotel with a real 'buzz' about it (it features in the film 'Pretty Woman')!! We didn't eat in the hotel as it was so much more entertaining to 'do breakfast' out in the many and varied excellently priced eateries nearby - and there are lots of them. Same for dinner - experimented each evening somewhere new. The bar however is a nice area to sit later in the evening and be entertained people- watching and listening to the pianist play. It's a good area and felt safe. We walked back to the hotel every evening and didn't feel in the least uncomfortable. A couple of good tips to get you started in NY....take the Empire State Building tour on your first day. Go early and get up to the highest point. This will enable you to get your bearings and see your way round New York - the Empire State is whithin easy walking distance from the Roosevelt. Book any theatre tickets on line BEFORE you go to NY as most of the big shows are booked out although you can wait in a queue to get 'standing room only' tickets but beware, you have to be 5ft 3ins and over to qualify for one! On your departure, get the hotel to organise a taxi cab for you to the airport - cheaper and far more reliable than a yellow cab. Above all, enjoy NY - we did and if we are going back, we would go back to the Roosevelt so that in itself is a good review!
