New York City Tourist Attractions - Intrepid Sea Air Museum Guide

Intrepid Sea Air Museum Tourist Guide - New York City

Located on the west side of Manhattan in New York, the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum is a fascinating attraction that will definitely appeal to those with an interest in wartime and general history. Located aboard the USS Intrepid, which is now permanently docked at Pier 86, this is a museum that houses a range of fascinating displays and exhibitions. The USS Intrepid was scheduled to be broken up in 1974, but after being docked by Zachary Fisher, went on to become a national historic landmark in the mid-1980s.

Amongst the items that you will find on display at the Intrepid Sea Air Museum are a submarine, a Forrest Sherman class destroyer, a variety of aircraft, and even British Airways Concorde. Interestingly, the Intrepid also served as a base for FBI investigations in 2001 following the tragic terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11th.The displays, exhibits, and even the interactive activities that can be found at this museum make it a fascinating and educational attraction that will be loved by visitors of all ages.

When you pay a visit to the museum you will find plenty to keep you - and the kids - busy. You will be able to take tour of the inside of Concorde, enjoy a ride in a cockpit simulator, or spend some time enjoying the virtual flight zone. Take in a range of exhibits and recreations that are designed to education and to inspire. To make the most of your time at this museum you can ask for a free guided tour, although these are on a first come first serve basis. However, for an even more indepth experience, you can also opt for a paid VIP tour, which will enable you to truly make the most of your experience.

If you fancy a quick bite to eat whilst visiting the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, you will be able to grab a bite at the on-site McDonald's, where the whole family can relax and enjoy a snack and a drink before continuing their explorations and adventures. There is also a museum shop on-site, and here you can purchase a range of goods, such as shirts, cameras, hats, and toys. If you are part of a large group you can make group bookings to visit the museum.

Learn all about how the different parts of a ship work with the All Hands on Air Exhibit, learn more about the Intrepid's history as a recovery vessel for NASA, or scale the rock wall and test your mental and physical agility. This attraction has proven very popular amongst visitors to New York, and no matter what your age there will be something here to fascinate and thrill you, whether it's finding yourself aboard Concorde, marveling at the fabulous displays, or enjoying a white knuckle ride aboard the flight simulator.

So, if you are planning a visit to New York, make sure that you take some time out to take in the wonders of the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, where you can enjoy a great combination of exploration, education, and fun.
