Shea Stadium Tourist Guide - New York City
Located in Flushing in the city of New York, Shea Stadium is a famous baseball stadium and is home to the New York Mets baseball team. One of the oldest ballparks in the national league, this is a large, circular stadium, and its close proximity to the airport means that planes can often be heard and seen flying overhead whilst at the stadium. The stadium opened in 1964, and has been home to this major league baseball team ever since. Visitors that see a game here can enjoy a vibrant and lively atmosphere, as well as comfortable seating and a range of amenities. This is a good choice of attraction for those that enjoy baseball, even though the design of the stadium has sometimes been criticized. Although this stadium is obviously best known for being home to the New York Mets, there are other types of sporting events that have been held here, and this includes soccer, football, and wrestling. Music concerts have also been held here, and the most prolific of these must be the opening of the 1965 North American Tour by the renowned English band, the Beatles. The Shea Stadium is a distinctive blue and white in color, reflecting the team's colors, and features a giant top hat that is upside down and holds a giant apple, which flashes whenever a home run is hit by one of the Mets. The location of the stadium means that it is easily accessible, and can be reached quickly and conveniently via public transport as well as by car.
