New York City Tourist Attractions - Soho Guide

Soho Tourist Guide - New York City

An acronym for South of Houston, Soho in New York is located in the borough of Manhattan, and was once known as the Cast Iron District. This is a distinctive area that has enjoyed a rich history, and became popular in the 1960s and 1970s amongst artists after many of the unused buildings in the area were turned into loft apartments and studios, which were perfect for artists to work in.

This trend changed in the 1980s, however, and many of the artistic set moved on, leaving behind a more urban professional population. Soho is an area where loft apartment living became hugely popular, and its popularity was increased by the trendy, hip reputation that it gained, as well as its fascinating architecture. Soon an array of boutiques and fashionable retailers and eateries began to appear in the area, and now this has become a popular destination amongst tourists.

When you visit the area of Soho you can enjoy visiting some of these trendy boutiques, even though you may find them somewhat expensive. You can also enjoy a choice of eateries, serving up an array of tasty snacks and delicious meals to suit most tastes. You will find people on the side streets of Soho selling an array of goods, and this is an area that enjoys a lively atmosphere and boasts the hustle and bustle that you would expect in a popular part of New York.

You will find many other fascinating areas within easy reach of Soho in New York, and some of these include Greenwich Village, Little Italy, and Chinatown. A visit to Soho is well worth adding to your itinerary if you are visiting New York, as it will enable you to see yet another side to this vibrant and exciting destination.
